VLC one of the best and most widely used player has many advantages and some disadvantages. The main reason for its popularity is not that it is free but many codes it has available to play every video file that is available .It is a part of the VideoLan project.

The reason why VLC is used widely is because it is easy to use. For instance it provides ample keyboard shortcuts when playing video or audio files. It uses less CPU when compared to Windows media player or iTunes. The strength of VLC is its ability to handle streaming video from the internet. VLC can take an existing stream or it can be used to stream new content.

The latest versions of VLC players have vulnerability to Remote Hijack. The reports say that the vulnerability makes the malicious user to run his code on the users system and can take control of the user’s machine. Video files will have the links to the subtitles files, these files will be automatically loaded by the VLC player. The buffer overflow flaw is used by the hacker to run his malicious program on the users system. The malicious program is contained in the subtitle file and it will tamper the users system. The only way to avoid this problem is not to use a subtitle file.

But the various features provided by the VLC overshadows this disadvantage and still users like to use VLC player. Let’s wait for the VideoLan team to correct this error and to release a new version.
