“Treaties are there to be broken at the cost of humane values “.US has come out in lending its helping hands to India to act against the prevailing terrorism in India. After the Mumbai attack, India has got its support from all the prevailing super powers to fight against the atrocity. Russia, whose role on India is not to be forgotten has given its support as always. Additionally, because of the strong India-US relation in the recent past, US’ liaison in India has given the oncoming threats a question mark.
America’s concern on India
Let me start from the present situation, i.e. the Mumbai attack. Though Pakistan has its own support on NATO in Afghanistan, the US and its allies has asked India not to be so concerned about the NATO in investigating Pakistan. It makes India feel so comfortable to take any action against the threats feeling the warmth given by the allies. The US president-elect Obama has condemned the terrorist attack. He has told that this attack would not cease the India-US relation rather it would inevitably grow to fight against the threat and cultivate harmony around the world.
When India made a nuclear test in 1974, US banned to supply nuclear fuel and technology. But according to the nuclear deal signed between India and US, India has been given a one time exception to keeps its nuclear weapon without signing the Nuclear-Non Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
To add with, the prevailing Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) has made India developed by means of technology. BITs are established by trade pacts. Moreover India’s plan for signing the Bilateral Aviation Safety Agreement with the US fosters American Aviation companies to invest in India. Also in ‘India Aviation 2008’ , US was the partner of India. Thus the Bilateral trade amounted US$ 33.9 billion in the year 2007-08.
Hot and cold sometimes
Outsourcing, which was of vast importance in India, is likely to be ended by Obama the US president-elect. But it would have a strong opposition from Corporate America. In the view of giving jobs to the unemployed Americans, Obama has made a strong point opposing the outsourcing.
Overall, India has made its mark in its increasing growth towards technology that the Obama team said that India and China are the “Outreach Partners” of the G-8.
Let us hope for the emergence of the India-US relation.
